'Pokémon GO' updates, news: Niantic releases 'Pokémon GO' on the Apple Watch

Looks like the rumors are most definitely false. Niantic has denied it was true, but there was actually a rumor saying they were canceling "Pokémon GO" on the Apple Watch. Now, Niantic has put those rumors to rest by launching the game on the smartwatches.
"Apple Watch is particularly well suited to Pokémon GO as it seamlessly combines gameplay and imagination with getting exercise and exploring the real world. You can easily interact with Pokémon GO on Apple Watch, using quick taps to discover nearby Pokémon and collect items from PokéStops. Once you encounter a Pokémon, you can catch it from your iPhone. You can log your play sessions through the Apple Watch app as a Workout that will count toward your personal Activity rings, while also counting distance toward hatching Pokémon Eggs," Niantic said in a statement on their website.
It should be noted that trainers can't catch Pokémon on the Apple Watch. They will have to do that on their mobile devices. However, the smartwatch allows players to do certain activities without the need to use a phone. Need to collect items from PokéStops? Just use the Apple Watch.
Niantic has been very busy this month and they have also announced that there's going to be a year-ending holiday event which will begin on Dec. 25 and end on Jan. 3. In the next few days, trainers will have a greater chance of hatching eggs containing the Gen 2 Pokémon Niantic introduced earlier this month: Pichu, Togepi, Magby, Elekid, Smoochum, Igglybuff and Cleffa.
Players will also receive one single-use Incubator per day from PokéStops, and the Santa hat-wearing Pikachu will appear more often. From Dec. 30 to Jan. 8, Squirtle, Bulbasaur and Charmander, and their respective evolutions will appear more often. Furthermore, Lure Modules will last an hour instead of 30 minutes, so trainers can encounter and catch more Pokémon during this time period.
