'Pokémon Sun and Moon' news, updates: second global mission begins

There's no way to sugarcoat this, but the first "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" global mission was a huge failure. The goal was for trainers to catch 100 million Pokémon in the period from Nov. 29 to Dec. 13, and the players who took part in the mission only collected a total of 16.4 million Pokémon. No surprise there. The goal was just unrealistic. The figure was too high that trainers believed that it was unattainable.
But it looks like The Pokémon Company has learned its lesson because the goal for the second global mission is going to be more reasonable. Serebii.net has reported that the second global mission will require trainers to collect a million Pokémon from Dec. 27 to Jan. 9, however, those Pokémon must be found using the Island Scan feature.
Trainers can unlock the Island Scan feature after earning 100 points with the QR Reader. Players can earn 10 points from each Alola Pokédex QR Code scanned, and 20 points for each Special QR Code scanned. The feature allows trainers to scan the island for rare Pokémon, but they will only have a short time to catch the Pokémon. Players can use the feature once per day.
If the trainers who join the global mission managed to collect a million Pokémon on or before Jan. 9, they will be awarded 2,017 Festival Coins (FC). If the participants fail, they will get 217 FC. Players can earn double the Festival Coins if they have registered their Game Sync ID at the Pokémon Global Link.
To participate in the global mission, trainers should enter the Festival Plaza in "Pokémon Sun" or "Pokémon Moon." Just select it in the in-game menu. The next step is to enter the Festival Plaza's central castle. Once trainers are in, they need to talk to the global mission receptionist and let her know that they want to participate in the global mission.
Before the mission ends, participants should return to the receptionist so they can sync their game to add to the global count. Players who have registered their game to a Pokémon Global Link (PGL) account can also connect to the Internet while they are in Festival Plaza and the game will sync automatically.
