'Pokémon' movie on the way; studios battle for rights to the upcoming live-action film

Much to the delight of Pokémon fans from all over the world, The Pokémon Company is celebrating an important milestone — the 20th anniversary of the franchise — with speculated plans of coming up with a live-action movie. In addition to that, the company is also releasing the role-playing video games "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" in the latter part of 2016 and its new interactive mobile game called "Pokémon Go."
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, a "top secret auction" for the rights to the new live-action Pokémon movie is currently underway and is "nearing completion." Chinese-owned company Legendary Entertainment is said to be the frontrunner in the auction. There are also rumors saying that Warner Bros. is very interested to claim ownership over the movie, given its involvement in previous Pokémon films. Sony is also reportedly keen to get the rights to the film. Nonetheless, there have been no official announcements and statements from the mentioned entertainment companies.
There have also been speculations that the Japanese-owned company has been eyeing to have the big-budget live-action movie released with Warner Bros. as they have worked together in the past on several Pokémon films. However, reports say that Legendary will likely win the bid for the rights to the planned Pokémon's live-action movie. Again, there have been no official announcements from any of the parties.
Fans of the popular creature-collecting game must be wondering how the live-action film will look like and how it will deviate from the animated films in the past. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, The Pokémon Company released a commercial during the recent Superbowl season in January. It could be a preview of how the movie will be made.
