Pokémon GO news: Release date, trailer and gameplay video leaked
Slated to hit the shelves sometime this year, Pokémon GO is the latest offering from The Pokémon Company in collaboration with former Google startup Niantic.
As of now, no release date has been confirmed by the company. The rumor mill is going crazy with several launch dates, but if the game does not arrive this year, it will most likely come out next year.
A Youtube user under the name of Eric F recently leaked a gameplay video, which allegedly gave the public a first look at the upcoming game. It was said to be filmed during an SXSW presentation conducted by Niantic founder and CEO John Hanke. The video already has more than 3.8 million views and counting.
In a press statement via PC Advisor UK, Hanke gave users an idea of how Pokémon GO will change the usual gaming experience. "For the first time, Pokémon will roam free in the real world. Pokémon GO will allow players to capture Pokémon who inhabit parks, shopping areas, sidewalks and the countryside all around the world. Imagine discovering a Squirtle hiding along the waterfront in San Francisco, a Bulbasaur at Shinjuku Station or a Pikachu beneath the Eiffel Tower."
Fans looking for legitimate sources about new details in the game mostly refer to one specific Reddit thread. To date, the site is the most reliable among others because the Pokémon GO field testers themselves shared the specifics, despite the non-disclosure act they were asked to sign for the company. According to the site, only the 150 original Pokémon are available in the current build. The most difficult Pokémon to catch include Eevee, Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. Pokémon which came from eggs are apparently stronger than those captured in the wild, and Pokéballs can be thrown in numerous ways.
Pokémon GO is an augmented reality game for Android and iPhone. Once released, the game will be available for free along with paid-for content. A trailer has been released for the game which can be viewed here.
