Sony's virtual reality (VR) headset will soon be available for gamers of the PlayStation 4. The device is arguably an affordable gadget but are its features worth the cost? Gaming enthusiasts believe it's cheaper than other VR headsets but it's resolution is significantly lower.

The virtual reality head-mounted display unit or HMD will be plugged into the PS4 for gaming. The VR headset will have a 5.7-inch OLED display that boasts a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The device will also come with a 100-degree field of view and a 120 Hz refresh rate.

The Guardian notes that although the screen resolution is great, it's a lesser class than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive headsets for PC. Both devices are a little more expensive than the PlayStation Unit. Furthermore, the VR headsets feature a 2160 x 1200 screen resolution.

The headset's design looks like a costume piece from the "Star Wars" franchise. It is a curved white chassis which has blue lighting when it is activated. Together with the PlayStation camera, an accelerator and a gyroscope embedded in the headset track the player's movements.

The PlayStation VR costs 350 pounds ($434). The PlayStation Camera, which is necessary, is sold separately. It costs 40 pounds($50).

The Guardian notes that the PlayStation VR has a lot of games under its belt. Aside from being a comfortable headset, the device offers reliable motion sensors. Since its resolution is lower compared to the other headsets, this device will have blurred details.

CNet lauds the device for being accessible, affordable and user-friendly among all the VR gadgets in the market. However, it notes that the single-camera tracking system doesn't quite live up to expectations. The news outlet also thinks the device's graphics are not as great as the Vive and Rift.

PlayStation's VR headset will be launched ib Oct. 13.The device is currently available for pre-orders at Amazon. Players can also pre-order the headset from game stores.
