The head of Planned Parenthood issued an apology this week following a secret video that showed another Planned Parenthood executive discussing the removal of aborted fetal body parts, as well as discussing the process of providing those body parts to scientists.

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, issued a video this week apologizing for the "tone and statements" made by the organization's senior director of medical research Deborah Nucatola.

The video, which was filmed by the Center for Medical Process, shows Nucatola discussing over lunch how one may remove a fetus during an abortion to preserve certain body parts, such as hearts and organs, to they may then be provided to scientists for medical research.

"Our top priority is the compassionate care that we provide. In the video, one of our staff members speaks in a way that does not reflect that compassion," Richards says in the video.

"This is unacceptable, and I personally apologize for the staff member's tone and statements," she added.

The Planned Parenthood president goes on to add that the organization does not profit from the donation of human tissue.

"I want to be really clear: The allegation that Planned Parenthood profits in any way from tissue donation is not true. Our donation programs -- like any other high-quality health care providers -- follow all laws and ethical guidelines," Richards adds.

The recently-released video has resulted in the opening of investigations in Congress, as well as some state-level investigations.
