'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' cast news: Paul McCartney bags a role in upcoming sequel

There have been very limited details regarding the plot and cast members of Disney's much-anticipated movie offering next year, the fifth installment of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film franchise. Titled "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," the upcoming movie will once again star Johnny Depp in the lead role. However, the recent reports suggest an interesting new addition to the "Pirates" family. The newest special cast member in the movie is none other than the legendary British singer and songwriter, Paul McCartney.

Deadline reported that "The Beatles" member is joining the stellar cast of the "Pirates of the Caribbean 5." It was noted that his part in the upcoming movie will not just be an ordinary role. McCartney is expected to play an integral part of the new "Pirates" universe, which is formulated by the movie's directors Jaochim Ronning and Espen Sandberg. Although the role is special, he is reportedly appearing in one extra scene.

While the British hitmaker is known largely in the music industry, and he could be an unlikely choice for some people to be cast in a known blockbuster franchise, McCartney already has a few movie stints on his professional record. Some of the popular movies in which he appeared are the comedy films "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!" Also, this will not be the first time that the "Pirates of the Caribbean" picked a legendary music icon as a cast member. In the fourth "Pirates" film, "On Stranger Tides," the "Rolling Stones" guitarist Keith Richards played the role of Captain Teague, the father of Depp's character, Jack Sparrow.

Yibada reported Depp's previous interview where he stated that he used the mannerisms of Richards to create the character of Jack Sparrow, and casting the Rolling Stones icon would be the best choice to play Jack Sparrow's father.

Along with Depp, Geoffrey Rush and Javier Bardem will reprise their roles in the previous movies. Orland Bloom is also expected to return as the popular Captain Will Turner.
