Phil Robertson Voices Support for Roy Moore in Gay Marriage Opposition
Phil Robertson, star of the A&E reality show "Duck Dynasty," has voiced his support for Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore's decision to encourage probate judges in the state not to issue same-sex marriage licenses.
Robertson, who has previously been outspoken on his evangelical beliefs, made his comments at an event last Friday in Montgomery, Alabama. Robertson praised Moore for his previous fight to keep a statue of the Ten Commandments at the Alabama courthouse where he presided. The "Duck Dynasty" star also discussed Moore's current fight to maintain the same-sex marriage ban in Alabama.
"Roy Moore is spot on," Robertson said. "He is correct, and Roy, if you hear this, do not back up because you are right on this one."
"All of our rights do come from God. They're inalienable, meaning you can't move them or transfer them," Robertson added.
"Roy Moore is trying his best," the "Duck Dynasty" star continued. "They said get rid of the Ten Commandments in the courthouse. [...] Here's my take, and I'm just an old redneck, but if you're gonna end up at the courthouse if you violate any of the Ten Commandments then that might be a good place to put 'em. Roy Moore knows that."
After an Alabama judge ruled that the state's ban on same-sex marriage should be overturned last month, Moore issued a statement to probate judges in the state encouraging them to refuse to issue same-sex marriage licenses.
