'Overwatch' DLC news 2016: New DLCs introducing new characters to be added one at a time as developers talk possibility of cross-platform play

"Overwatch," Blizzard Entertainment's explosive first-person online multiplayer shooter, has been making waves ever since it was released last month, but apart from questions regarding cross-platform plays, fans are wondering if the developer would release downloadable content (DLC) for the game. There are also concerns about the seeming mismatch when some characters are matched against others.

McCree and D. Va are two of the characters whom fans seem to have problems playing. Nevertheless, Blizzard has stepped forward and addressed the issue, saying they hope the new updates they have planned would successfully balance the two.

Jeff Kaplan, game director for "Overwatch," said the balance changes for McCree will come "sooner than the D. Va buff." He also talked to Eurogamer about McCree's "Fan the Hammer" ability, an alternate fire skill that allows McCree to fire multiple, consecutive shots at a target in a short span of time.

"McCree is pretty straightforward. What we're looking at right now is his fan the hammer damage. We're going to reduce it," he told Eurogamer. "The goal there is to make it so that McCree can still use his combo that we love, which is the flashbang and fan the hammer on somebody like Tracer. McCree should absolutely kill that Tracer"

On the other hand, Kaplan admitted they are still exploring which direction to take concerning D. Va and her role in terms of damage. Still, two new playable heroes might be introduced as part of the purported DLCs – Sombra and Liao. However, very little is known about the two characters, as Blizzard is assumed to be keeping secrets and would just reveal bits and pieces as time goes on.

As for the possibility of a cross-platform play for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players, GameSpot shared this on their Twitter page.

Barely a month out, the game's success could certainly push Blizzard to make long-term plans for "Overwatch," and if this tweet is any indication, it looks like a slew of new characters through DLCs would be added along the way.
