"Outlander" is one of the most successful historical drama series on TV right now, and a third season in the works is not surprising at all. This coming Saturday marks the end of the hit period drama, but to ease the fans' pain of waiting for another year, showrunner Ron Moore shared details about the upcoming season through a Twitter Q & A. According to Moore, they will begin filming sometime in "late August/early September" and the plotline will be based on "Voyager" â€” the third installment of Diana Gabaldon's best-selling book series.

Since fans can't get enough of the show, some may be wondering how many episodes will be ordered for next year. The pilot season had 16 episodes while the sophomore run only includes 13 but according to Moore, it might still change. "The plan is 13 [episodes] per season but always subject to change," he told Zap2it. New cast members will surely be on board, and Moore admits "looking forward" to seeing new faces for "young Ian and older Fergus." However, he stressed that they have yet to cast characters for season 3.

Moore added that they are currently working out a final location for the upcoming season, specially now that big scenes are ahead, including a sea voyage. With a shipwreck in the story, finding the perfect location is one of the challenges in producing the series. "'Voyager' is another challenge, a different challenge, for the show," the showrunner explained. "Fortunately that story at least begins in Scotland, so we don't have to immediately switch to France like we did this year. But I know we're not shooting solely in Scotland — we have to find a ship and a tank and facilities and sets and the whole nine yards to do a sea voyage, because there's an extended sea voyage. They sail that ship around the Caribbean, then there's a hurricane and shipwreck."

Be sure to watch the season 2 finale of "Outlander" which airs on July 9 at 9 p.m. ET on Starz.
