'Outlander' season 3 premiere spoilers: plot to be based on 'Voyager', Diana Gabaldon announces title of book 9

The second season of popular history drama "Outlander" is coming to a close this week, and fans are in for an interesting sea voyage when the show returns for its third season

According to Zap2it, production for the new installment is less complicated than the sophomore season. Showrunner Ronald D. Moore confirmed that they will not be filming in the U.S., adding that so far, there are "no decisions beyond that." There are speculations that Brianna and Roger will play important roles in the next season, but it remains to be seen if there will be major changes in their respective roles.

The plot for season 3 will be drawn from the third book in Diana Gabaldon's best-selling book series titled "Voyager." Since the story revolves around a sea voyage, Moore shared that the Carribean scenes might be the most difficult to shoot and that he is looking forward to film "all the ship scenes." The showrunner also revealed that shooting in South Africa to use the tanks and sets initially constructed for Starz's pirate drama "Black Sails" is currently "under discussion." "I know we're not shooting solely in Scotland â€” we have to find a ship and a tank and facilities and sets and the whole nine yards to do a sea voyage because there's an extended sea voyage. They sail that ship around the Caribbean, then there's a hurricane and shipwreck," Moore added.

On other related news, Diana Gabaldon recently revealed the title of the ninth installment in her best-selling series. The latest book following Jaime and Claire Fraser's time travel adventures is titled "Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone," and an excerpt can be read from Gabaldon's official Facebook page.

Catch the 90-minute special finale of "Outlander" season 2 which is scheduled to air on July 9, Saturday at 9 p.m. EST on Starz. As of this writing, a premiere date for season 3 is yet to be announced.
