'Outlander' news: Diana Gabaldon discusses future plans for the show

As the season two premiere of Starz' time-travel series "Outlander" nears, fans are excited to know more of what's in store for the upcoming episodes.
Based on the second novel by Diana Gabaldon entitled "Dragonfly in Amber," the second season of "Outlander" will revolve around Jamie and Claire's journey to France in their hopes to change the course of history. By seeking out Bonnie Prince Charlie, the two will attempt to put an end to the Jacobite rebellion as well as the Battle of Culloden.
Recent reports noted a cast member giving hints about the show. Richard Rankin who plays the character of Roger Wakefield tweeted, "I think Season 2 of #Outlander is going to be bloody brilliant." Due to the success of 'Outlander' with its unique storyline and its appreciation for the Scottish culture, the series continuing for a third season is a no-brainer. Diana Gabaldon, author of the book where the series is based on does not want to focus too much on whether a third season is in the works or not. However, she did say in an interview: "Working on the assumption there will be a third series, they will be able to shot quite a bit in Scotland.They are trying to expand the [Wardpark] studios in Cumbernauld to six stages, trying to make it into a major film studio, and so far all of the interiors have been shot there."
As for a sequel, Gabaldon confirms to Herald Scotland that one is currently in progress. "Then I am planning on a sequel, which will be about Jamie Fraser's parents and the rising of the [17]15," she stated. Gabaldon explained that the story will be about Jamie Fraser's parents Brian and Ellen, along with his godfather Murtagh and his maternal uncle Dougal MacKenzie. "Outlander" season 2 premieres April 9 on Starz, while the series will be available in the Amazon Prime streaming service on April 10.
