'Orphan Black' final season news, updates: Production officially begins; first sneak peak reveals new cast members

Production for BBC America's "Orphan Black" has officially begun, and the latest sneak peek from the show reveals the new faces for the upcoming farewell season.

The hit sci-fi drama recently released a teaser aired via Facebook Live last Tuesday, giving anticipating fans a look behind the scenes of the show's fifth and final season. As seen in the "Orphan Black" official page, the clip is over 20 minutes and it features the filming process in a wooded area.Lead star Tatiana Maslany is confirmed to reprise all of her roles, along with other returning cast members Jordan Gavaris as Felix and Kristian Bruun as Alison's husband Donnie. Also coming back for season five are Maria Doyle Kennedy (Mrs. S), Kevin Hanchard (Art), Ari Millen (Ira), Josh Vokey (Scott), Skyler Wexler (Kira), James Frain (Ferdinand), Evelyne Brochu (Delphine), and Calwyn Shurgold (Hell Wizard).

Aside from the familiar faces, viewers were also given a first look at the new characters to be introduced. Stephen McHattie has been tapped to play the important role of P.T. Westmoreland, the impossibly ancient 170-year-old founder of Neolution. Andrew Moodie is slated to portray Rachel's new mysterious consultant Mr. Frontenac, while Elyse Levesque will join the series as Detective Engers, a dirty Neolution cop. Jenessa Grant will enter the picture as an eclectic young islander Mud, and Simu Liu will play Kira's new homeroom teacher, Mr. Mitchell.

"Since the beginning, BBCA has worked with the incredibly talented cast and crew of Orphan Black to create deep relationships with the show's fans," BBC America president Sarah Barnett said in a recent press release. "As the team reunites to shoot season 5, we all wanted to invite the Clone Club to something pretty specialâ€”a virtual set visit with Facebook Live. This innovative event marks the beginning of our celebrations leading up to the final season of this unique show in 2017."

BBC America has yet to announce a premiere date for the fifth and final season of "Orphan Black."
