'Orange is the New Black' season 5 updates, spoilers: Cancellation rumors debunked; Piper makes new allies

Since last season's cliffhanger, various rumors about "Orange is the New Black" ("OITNB") season 5 have circulated online.

To recap, season 4 showed the death of Poussey (Samira Wiley), a beloved character in the series. After that bold move, fans are expecting the showrunners to kill off more characters in the future. But out of all the inmates in the show, it seems like Piper (Taylor Schilling) will face the most challenges in the upcoming episodes.

Schilling previously admitted to Pop Sugar that Piper will have a tough time next season. The actor said that Piper will be moving away "from the idea of what she thought she was." The actress also revealed that her character will be less concerned about her looks and will be more concerned about how to survive in prison.

GamenGuide suggested that the upcoming season will be a turning point for Piper. Will she completely lose herself as she remains focused on survival? Sources speculated that Piper will become enemies with Stella (Ruby Rose) and Flaca (Jackie Cruz). In light of this plot twist, Piper could possibly be making new allies next season.

Such spoilers assured fans that "OITNB" will continue. One of the most bizarre rumors that recently came out was about the series' cancellation, which was eventually debunked by more credible sources.

The rumor started when TMZ Uncut claimed that the show had been cancelled when 78 out of 2,000 employees skipped work following an "OITNB" watch party. According to Snopes, TMZ Uncut is not in any way connected with TMZ, the popular celebrity gossip and news site. On the other hand, TMZ Uncut is a known partner of Celebritricity. The latter is a publication that generates false news for the purpose of entertainment.

Netflix has indeed officially renewed the show for season 7. However, neither management nor the showrunners have yet to reveal the premiere date of the forthcoming season.
