'Orange is the New Black' Season 3 Release Date, Cast News: Jason Biggs Leaving Netflix Series, Not In New Season
"Orange Is the New Black," or OITNB, is set to premiere its third season in June 2015 in Netflix without one of the few main male characters. It has been confirmed that Jason Biggs, who plays Piper Chapman's ex-fiancé Larry Bloom will not be appearing in Season 3 of the crime comedy-drama series based on Piper Kerman's memoir, "Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison."
Biggs, best known for his movie "The American Pie" and its sequels, told New York's Daily News that although Larry would not be in Season 3, there is always a possibility of a comeback. Biggs is preparing to co-star in Broadways' "The Heidi Chronicles" with Elisabeth Moss of "Mad Men."
With OINTB having opened its first and second seasons to critical acclaim, anticipation for Season 3 is running high.
The series revolves around the life of Piper, a woman living in New York City who was sentenced to 15 months in a women's federal prison for transporting a suitcase full of drug money to her former girlfriend, Alex Vause (Laura Prepon), an international drug smuggler/mule. The offense occurred 10 years prior to the start of the series. In prison, Piper got reunited with Alex (who might have implicated Piper in her trial leading to her arrest) and the two friends found themselves re-examining their relationship and dealing with their fellow prisoners. Piper later moved on to a quiet, law-abiding life among NY's upper middle class.
What caused a buzz was the "revolutionary," according to The Advocate, casting of African-American transgender, Laverne Cox, as Sophia Burset, a transgender character.
Biggs' character Larry has been on the series since the beginning. He was Piper's fiancé when she entered prison. In Season 2, he had an affair with Piper's best friend Polly (Maria Dizzia), which ended his engagement with Piper for good. This quickly made Larry the most hated character in the series.
