The conservative activist group One Million Moms has spoken out in opposition to a new ABC television show known as the "Muppet Show" aimed at giving the famed 1970's puppets adult story lines.

The Christian activist group has argued that the show carries inappropriate themes of sex, drugs and abortion, with the group saying in a press release that the "puppet characters loved by kids in the 1970s and 1980s and beyond are now weighing in on abortion and promiscuity."

"ABC hopes children watch the show and predict they would enjoy some of the humor, but [One Million Moms] would disagree. It is not the show it once was. ABC has ruined 'The Muppets.' How many parents want to explain the punchline of sexually charged jokes to young children?" the statement continued.

"Many parents unknowingly will let their children watch an episode only to find out its perverted nature too late, unless they are alerted ahead of time. [One Million Moms] and others need to get the word out to families to avoid this program at all costs. Please forward this to everyone you know!" the statement added.

Some media outlets have also suggested that the new show's portrayal of sex is slightly off, given the characters are puppets that were once the star of the famous 1970's television show by the same name.

"Am I the only person who finds puppet love lives super creepy? Seeing a frog date a pig was already too much for me, and now I'm very weirded out by the Muppets dating humans. I just hope interspecies romance is not the main focus of this entire show, because I will not be able to watch it," E! Online wrote in a review.
