'Once Upon a Time' season 6 spoilers, plot news: EP hints new literature characters to be introduced; Hook and Emma's relationship to be explored
"Once Upon a Time" will center on yet another adventure, and the upcoming sixth season will feature new characters as an effort to expand the storyline.
Aside from Captain Nemo from "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," who will become Hook's (Colin O'Donoghue) enemy and the Greek God Morpheus, who will have a significant role in Rumple (Robert Carlyle) and Belle's (Emilie de Ravin) story arc, executive producer Eddy Kitsis hints another literature great will be introduced in season 6.
"We're going to meet the Count of Monte Cristo. We're going to be telling stories from other lands and other pieces of fiction," the EP told TV Guide. "For us, it's really fun to expand the universe of 'Once Upon a Time.'"
Additionally, the plot will also explore Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and Hook's budding relationship. As fans can recall, the previous season saw Emma saying "I love you" to Hook. Executive producer Adam Horowitz confirmed in an interview that the romance between the two will inspire Hook to become a better person. "Hook is excited to progress that relationship," he explained. "At the same time, he is on his path of redemption, and we are going to see Hook doing his best to be heroic this year."
Compared to the past seasons which focused on the characters as they traveled to other lands including Neverland and Camelot, Horowitz added that the upcoming installment is all about "coming home and figuring out what life is like at home." According to the official synopsis, the season 6 premiere kicks off with the heroes out to stop Mr. Hyde (Sam Witwer) while Emma develops a strange side effect. Regina (Lana Parrilla) and Zelena (Rebecca Leigh Mader) become roommates, as Rumple gets help from a stranger to free Belle from a sleeping curse.
