'Once Upon a Time' season 6 spoilers news 2016: Regina mourns her loss; the Evil Queen is ready to play

"Once Upon a Time" season 5's ending was a bit of a shocker, with an unpleasant character coming back into the picture. The cliffhanger of a season finale saw Regina (Lana Parrilla) forcing the dark side out of her, only for it to manifest as the Evil Queen, which Parrilla plays, too.

It can be recalled that the Evil Queen ominously said that Regina should not have let her out to play, hinting that the case of Regina and the Evil Queen could be more than just split personality, but more like having two Reginas with differing personalities.

Movie News Guides indicates that is what Regina would have to contend with when "Once Upon a Time" returns to ABC for season 6. However, viewers know that she would also be dealing with the loss of her romantic interest, Robin Hood (Sean Maguire), who died in season 5.

Parrilla made clear in an interview that her character would have a hard time dealing with the loss. Apparently, she will mourn the tragedy well into the sixth season of ABC's much-loved series.

"I think mourning will continue over time," Parrilla told TV Line, adding "Regina is a very private person, she doesn't really share a lot of what's going on inside. Internally, she's conflicted by so many things that she doesn't even talk about."

After managing to get the evil side out of her psyche, it's worth anticipating how Regina would approach her grief now that she is back to being plain old Regina.

"There's been so much evolution, she's come so far, she's been in the shoes of the hero for the last couple of years, so I'm curious to see how she's going to handle this big loss," she said.

Meanwhile, showrunners Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis said Emma (Jennifer Morrison) would be "less reckless, but more determined" in her actions this coming season, considering what she went through in season 5.

Horowitz told The Hollywood Reporter that season 6 would mostly involve the "core group of characters, Storybrooke, and flashing back to other realms".

"Once Upon a Time" season 6 is returning to ABC this fall.
