'Once Upon a Time' season 6 return date, news, spoilers: Showrunners preparing to end the show right; Tinker Bell returns

With the second half of season 6 coming up in March, "Once Upon a Time" showrunners are preparing to bring the story in the right direction to prepare for a great ending. Meanwhile, Rose McIver will reprise her role as Tinker Bell when season 6 returns.

At the Television Critics Awards this month, ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey shared with Deadline that executive producers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz have already presented their ideas for a seventh season.

"There was some interesting stuff, we gave them some feedback, and they are now working and are going to come back and sit with me in a couple of weeks," Dungey said.

The decision to pick up "Once Upon a Time" for a seventh season will come after the showrunners meet again with Dungey. But Dungey explained that whether the show continues for another season or not, Kitsis and Horowitz are aiming "to end the story in the right way" and that they're already figuring out how the show's storyline will work out.

If the show continues with season 7, it is possible that new characters will be taking over. Dungey explained that season 7 is headed towards a new direction, which does not really mean that all current characters will be slashed out.

But Dungey added, "How do you kind of hit the reset button in a way that gives you opportunity to expand the stories that we're telling?" Entertainment Weekly confirmed.

Meanwhile, Horowitz and Kitsis confirmed with TV Line that McIver will be returning to "Once Upon a Time" to reprise her role as Tinker Bell.

Tinker Bell first appeared in "Once Upon a Time" season 3 during the Netherland arc. She was the character that revealed that Regina has a soul mate, which is Robin Hood.

"Tinker Bell was integral to Regina (Lana Parilla) discovering her destiny with Robin Hood, so it only stands to reason that with Sean Maguire's return to the show, our favorite fairy would pop back in for a visit," the showrunners explained.

"Once Upon a Time" season 6 returns in March on ABC.
