Ohio Gov. John Kasich Announces 2016 Presidential Bid

Ohio Governor John Kasich announced his plans to run for president in 2016 this week, joining a growing list of contenders vying for the GOP presidential ticket.

Kasich became the 16th notable candidate to enter the presidential race on the GOP ticket on Tuesday, announcing his plans at Ohio State University, where he told the crowd of 2,000 that that "big ideas change the world."

"I am here to ask you for your prayers, for your support, for your efforts because I have decided to run for president," the governor told the crowd, adding that "the sun is rising, and the sun is going to rise to the zenith in America again."

"I promise you," the governor added.

Kasich went on to promote his resume and experience in a political office as evidence that he is a viable presidential candidate, saying: "I have the experience and the testing, the testing which shapes you and prepares you for the most important job in the world and I believe I know how to work and help restore this great United States."

The governor also touched on the importance of his Christian faith in guiding his decisions, saying "I am just a flawed man trying to honor God's blessing."

Kasich joins a growing list of 2016 GOP presidential candidates, including Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and former Texas Governor Rick Perry, among others.
