Nurse Kaci Hickox Defies Quarantine Order By Riding Bike

Nurse Kaci Hickox violated her quarantine requirements on Thursday by going on a bike ride with her boyfriend in Maine.
Hickox, who returned from treating Ebola patients in Sierra Leone last week, said she would violate her quarantine by leaving her home in Maine on Thursday. The nurse had previously been quarantined at a hospital in Newark, New Jersey, but Gov. Chris Christie allowed her to go home after she hired a civil rights lawyer and threatened that her "basic human rights" were being violated.
Photographs from reporters show Hickox riding her bike with her boyfriend, Ted Wilbur, on Thursday morning. After her hour-long ride, the nurse told reporters: "I hope that we can continue negotiations and work this out amicably."
"There is no legal action against me, so I'm free to go on a bike ride in my hometown."
Maine officials have indicated they will pursue a court order that would allow state marshals to remain outside of Hickox's house until her quarantine is completed in November, after 21 days. Despite claims from some officials that they will pursue the quarantine rules with force, Maine Gov. Paul LePage indicated that Hickox may be able to take a blood test rather than continue with the quarantine.
According to ABC News, attorneys for the state of Maine made a request to the Superior Court on Thursday to give Hickox an Ebola blood test.
"This could be resolved today," the governor told ABC News. "She has been exposed and she's not cooperative, so force her to take a test. It's so simple."
