North Carolina Man 'Thanks Jesus' After Groceries Delivered by 911 Dispatcher
An 81-year-old North Carolina man is thanking God after groceries were delivered to his home by a 911 dispatcher.
Clarence Blackmon of Fayetteville, North Carolina recently returned home after months in the hospital for cancer treatment, only to find there was no food in the refrigerator.
"I said, 'I'm not broken, I'm not bleeding, and I'm not in crisis. I just want somebody to help me buy some food,'" Blackmon told ABC News of the call he made to 911 requesting groceries.
Blackmon, unable to leave the house to get his own groceries, called 911 to ask for help. Emergency operator Marilyn Hinson answered, and told Blackmon that she would bring groceries to his home.
"He was hungry," Hinson told local media outlet ABC 11. "I've been hungry. A lot of people can't say that, but I can, and I can't stand for anyone to be hungry."
The local media outlet reports that the 911 dispatcher soon arrived at Blackmon's door with local police officers carrying bags of groceries.
Hinson made Blackmon several sandwiches for him to keep in his refrigerator.
"It was like a little miracle ringing in my ear," Blackmon said. "I thought, 'Jesus, you answered those prayers!'"
ABC News reports that Blackmon suffered a stroke about a year ago and has been undergoing rehabilitation ever since. The 81-year-old is also reportedly battling cancer.
The elderly man also told The Huffington Post that he has been living alone since his wife of over 50 years died of cancer in 2011.
Shortly after his wife's death, Blackmon lost the home they had been living in for decades due to foreclosure.
"I thank the lord I had Wanda for as long as I did, but I miss her and our house," he said. "Life is unpredictable and unfortunately it doesn't get easier as we get older."
