Nintendo Switch release date news update: Console makes its live TV debut; upcoming 'Super Mario Run' to be playable on Switch?

The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch recently made its TV debut, gracing the stage of "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" for its first ever live demonstration.
After the Switch's big reveal, Fallon got a chance to play "The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild" on both of the console's potential states. Nintendo of America's president, Reggie Fils-Aime, walked Fallon through how the device works by making him play the game on a big screen while the Nintendo Switch tablet was seated in its designated dock. It was followed by a quick change to a handheld gameplay experience.
Games Radar points out that the Switch easily slides out of its dock, immediately transferring the ongoing game over to the system's screen. The headphone jack is located on the console's top-right, while the cartridge slot is situated on the top-left. What seems like a fan exhaust can also be seen in the middle. Eagle-eyed fans noticed a USB-C charging port in the unit as well, making the Switch very easy to charge while traveling.
Ahead of the Switch, Nintendo is also scheduled to release "Super Mario Run," a side-scrolling, auto-runner platformer video game developed by the company for iOS and Android devices. However, the chances of the game being in the Switch's lineup is slim, according to Fils-Aime.
"Development for Super Mario Run is different than development for Nintendo Switch," the executive told CNET. "With Switch, we're going to have a variety of input devices, a variety of ways for you to interact with the game. Here, it's all the screen. So it's a different type of development challenge. But at the core, our developers are looking to create content that you really can't get anywhere else, you can't experience anywhere else...that's a core philosophy that's going to continue," he went on to say.
The Nintendo Switch is expected to be released in March 2017.
