Nintendo Switch release date, news: Device to sport multitouch screen; media briefing for upcoming console to be held in January

It has been a week since the NX became Nintendo Switch, and new details about the upcoming home console were recently revealed.
According to a report by Eurogamer, Nintendo's latest home console-handheld hybrid won't ditch the touchscreen its predecessors currently have. The media outlet's sources have also confirmed that aside from touch controls, the device will sport a multi-touch screen.
Nintendo Switch is said to have a six-inch, 720-pixel resolution screen which makes it stand out from the line of Nintendo DS handhelds and Wii U. Compared to those consoles which offer resistive screens for just single-touch usage, Eurogamer's sources claim that the Switch will include a touch functionality similar to what most smartphones have. It means that the console provides multi-finger gesture support.
Last week, the tech company unveiled a trailer that gave interested consumers a solid overview of Switch's most important features. The short clip highlighted a number of control methods such as playing with each JoyCon attached to the console itself on the go and playing by using the JoyCon controllers with the main unit docked. Various multiplayer options were also showcased in the video.Unfortunately, the trailer left the status of the touchscreen controls up in the air because it centered on what Nintendo Switch does differently from the Wii U and 3DS.
Nintendo declined to comment on the claims concerning the Switch's screen. However, Polygon reports that recent patent findings of the latest Nintendo console suggest that it does include a touch screen, GPS, gyroscope, motion-tracking capabilities, and compass.
To date, Nintendo still has yet to announce a definitive release date of the handheld console. However, a media briefing for the Nintendo Switch will be held on Jan. 13 where more details on the system features are expected to be revealed.
