Fans are certainly happy that Nintendo has finally made the NX official. However, according to some critics, not all are happy with the company's plan to manufacture a new console, which is set to be released in March 2017. Critics are saying that the development of the console is going to be costly for the company.

Michael Pachter, a renowned video gaming analyst, shared his thoughts about the latest announcement from Nintendo on the current Pachter Factor episode.

"When last I looked, which was in the last three months, Nintendo has something like $10 billion in cash. I think that the worst case if the NX is a bust, they will lose half a billion," said the outspoken Pachter.

"As long as they keep producing great content – and they have never wavered – they'll be fine. I just don't think they are going to maximise their profits without having a good hardware strategy and a good software strategy."

The analyst added that it will be hard for handhelds and new consoles to become big in the market these days because consumers are drawn to mobile games.

He also explained the lack of support from third-party game manufacturers, which has already happened with Wii U.

"[With] the NX, I think you are going to see very low third-party support outside of Japan unless the thing is a hit," Pachter said. "And so, I mean my criticism of them is just that they have squandered a big lead that they had in hardware and gone from first-to-worst, quickly, on the console side."

Meanwhile, Tatsumi Kimishima, Nintendo's new president, said that the company is definitely not "thinking of launching the hardware at a loss." Tech Buffalo also reported that a possibility of the Nintendo NX being sold at an expensive price is likely to happen.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting how fans will receive the new console once it hits the market.
