NFL Investigating 'Deflated Ball' at Patriots Game
Following the New England Patriots' win against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in Massachusetts, insider officials say the NFL is allegedly investigating the New England team for possibly deflating footballs ahead of the AFC championship game.
NFL spokesman Michael Signora confirmed to ABC News that the league is reportedly investigating whether the team deflated balls ahead of their game against the Colts at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on Sunday evening. The Patriots won the game 45 to 7 against the Colts.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady already addressed the rumors of deflated balls on Boaston's WEEI radio Monday morning, calling the claim "ridiculous."
"I think I've heard it all at this point [...] it's ridiculous," Brady said. "I don't even respond to stuff like this."
The New England team could reportedly be punished for the alleged offense by losing draft picks or facing a fine.
Bob Kravitz, a reporter for WTHR, was one of the first to reveal the NFL's investigation into the ball situation on his Twitter feed.
"Breaking: A league source tells me the NFL is investigating the possibility the Patriots deflated footballs Sunday night. More to come," Kravitz tweeted Sunday evening.
"I'm told at one point the officials took a ball out of play and weighed it. Should hear more tomorrow on this subject," Kravitz continued, adding "Didn't have a chance to talk to colts officials about this. They were long gone when I heard this."
The New England Patriots are set to play the Seattle Seahawks in the upcoming Super Bowl.
