Nexus 6 Release Date Update: Faulty Firmware Forces Motorola to Recall Some AT&T Units

The launch of the Nexus 6 has been far from trouble-free with bugs and other problems plaguing users. More bad news arrived when Motorola, which manufactures the Nexus 6, recalled some of the stocks it delivered to AT&T.

While the exact cause of the recall is not known, it seems faulty firmware installed by Motorola made the new phablet from Google useless. The bug in the phone makes it impossible to connect to any network. In some cases it does not operate adequately and causes itself to reboot frequently.

Some websites say the entire batch of Nexus 6 phones shipped to AT&T has been recalled. But others say the recall affects only the first set of devices shipped to AT&T.

The recall came as the Nexus 6 was being shipped to customers who ordered the phablet under the pre-order schemes. This could be one reason why customers have not mentioned the problem yet on the Internet.

The Nexus 6 woes have generated bad press for Google and AT&T.

As for now, reports say only a "small" number of AT&T customers will be affected by the recall and that Nexus 6 phablets available from other networks are not included in the recall order.

Since the news of the recall started circulating, Motorola has accepted blame for the problem. In a statement to Android Police, the company says customers who pre-ordered the device via AT&T and were affected by the recall will be provided replacements for their phones. The statement also noted that the Nexus 6 phones currently being shipped have no reported defect.

Android Police has since pointed out that the problem did not stem from the modifications that AT&T made to the phablet, which included changes to the booting animation, addition of extra ringtones and authorization that affects tethering.
