The final season of The Newsroom is due to start in November. In it viewers are going to see Will McAvoy and his team deal with the aftermath of the Boston Bombings, and the hunt for the perpetrators. The third season will feature just six episodes, but CarterMatt points out that the small number of episodes was still fine by most viewers, as many even thought the show would be cancelled after the second season.

In the trailer, Boston Magazine quotes Jeff Daniels who plays McAvoy stating, "Twice in the last 24 hours, law enforcement's has publicly disclosed information, because either a paper or website had put someone's life in danger. If he's hiding in a boat in a back yard, I'd like confirmation before I say it on TV!"

The focus on the aftermath of the Boston Marathon Bombings is to be expected as "The Newsroom" has in the past focused on real life events as a base for its dramatic storylines. It was something it did in its first season, and sparked a degree of controversy as some critics did not like the slant the show gave to some issues.

In the past the show has highlighted ethics in the journalism industry, and especially about when rumors should be presented as official news and fact. The new season will again focus on ethics in journalism, what the media should not do in situation such as the bombings, and how social media influences the news.

Writers seem to have selected the journalism and coverage surrounding the Boston bombings for this exact reason, as the event was engulfed in a series of media errors and false reporting as different networks and papers tried to break news.

One such example was when The New York Post implied that two men seen in photos and images with bags were highlighted as probable suspects in the Boston Marathon bombings. With the focus of The Newsroom including journalistic malpractice and the bombings, the final season is sure to be dramatic and interesting.
