'New Girl' season 6 release date news, spoilers: Crossover event with Fox's 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' set for the fall

Following its successful "Sleepy Hollow"–"Bones" crossover event last season, Fox has set the stage for another crossover, this time between "New Girl" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," its two longest-running comedies.
The upcoming crossover event was announced last Monday, Aug. 8, at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour. The hour-long crossover will air on Tuesday, Oct. 11, on Fox. It will begin with "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" at 8 p.m. ET and conclude with "New Girl," which begins at 8:30 p.m. ET.
"New Girl" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" were both moved to new Tuesday timeslots last season.
Fox did not disclose the plot of the crossover event but did reveal that the "New Girl" group will be making their way to New York City, where "Nine-Nine" is set. TVLine suggests that "New Girl" character Winston (Lamorne Morris) could play a major role in the crossover.
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" co-creator Dan Goor released a statement about the crossover with "New Girl," teasing that the two shows' casts will next appear on "Empire," the "Fox 10 O'Clock News," and NFL Sunday.
"But in all seriousness," he said, "we're all huge fans of 'New Girl' here at the 'Nine-Nine,' and we're excited to see our characters interact and to work with their incredible writers and producers. And also to see what their craft services are like, compared to ours."
"New Girl" creator Elizabeth Meriwether also joked about the crossover, saying, "The crossover episode has historically been the artistic high point of any show that has dared to attempt it."
"[We] will proudly and humbly go where few shows have gone since the 1990s," she added. "We know we have big shoes to fill, and we look forward to disappointing everyone."
"New Girl" season 6 is set to premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 8:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
