'New girl' season 5 spoilers, cast news: Zooey Deschanel returns, Megan Fox exits?

After the first episode of season 5, Zooey Deschanel who plays the role of Jess had taken a maternity leave, but now she will be returning for the upcoming episode of the show.
Fans were generally afraid of the show's fate following Jess' being away for jury duty. Megan Fox, who plays the character of Reagan was the one who leased Jess' room while she was away. Initially worried if Fox will have a good comedic timing, viewers came to realize how likable and funny Reagan turned out to be.

"New Girl" Season 5 producer Liz Merriweather even stated in an interview that as much as she wanted Fox for the role, she was doubtful at first in terms of her comedic timing. However, Fox proved to have a funny side which resonated in her portrayal of Reagan, which did not only please the "New girl" fans but also her co-actors as well. Reagan's presence gave the series a breath of fresh air, exceeding the expectations of viewers.

With Deschanel ready to reprise her role as Jess to be back in her friends' lives, reports say that with the recent success Fox brought upon the show, some fans are sad to see her go.
In an interview with TVLine, 'New girl' executive producer Brett Baer expressed that there are ongoing discussions bringing back Reagan to the series' storyline. He went on to add, "We love what her character brings to the table for the Nick-and-Jess dynamic — and for all the characters."

Reagan left with loose ends between her and Nick, but viewers have yet to know if Reagan will be back anytime soon. Considering the possibility of the two being paired up, Showrunner Liz Meriweather said, "Actually, Nick's relationship with [Reagan] helps bring things into perspective for Jess, in a good way. There's definitely some developments that are on their way by the end of the season. Dot, dot, dot."
