Netflix's 'Voltron' reboot release date news: Trailer unveiled, series to premiere June 10

Cult-classic of the 1980s, "Voltron" will make its way back to TV screens this June as ''Voltron: Legendary Defender," with the collaborative effort of Netflix and Dreamworks Animations.
For those unfamiliar with the show, "Voltron" was a popular anime series created by John Teichmann and Peter Keefe way back in 1984. The story revolves around a team of five young pilots with each having a robot lion to command. Those five lions can be combined to form "Voltron," a gigantic robot wielding a sword.
According to LA Times, the voices of the "Voltron" team were announced at the recently concluded Wonder-Con. Steven Yeun, also known as Glenn in "The Walking Dead" will voice the character of Keith, Tyler Labine ("Tucker and Dale vs. Evil") as Hunk, Rhys Darby ("Flight of the Conchords") as Coran, Jeremy Shada (the voice of Finn from "Adventure Time") as Lance, Kimberly Brooks (Ashley Williams in "Mass Effect") as Princess Allura, Bex Taylor-Klaus ("The Last Witch Hunter") as Pidge, and Josh Keaton (Hal Jordan in "Green Lantern: The Animated Series") as Shiro. Dreamworks also showed never-before-seen footages from the show, inspiring a standing ovation from elated fans in WonderCon's Los Angeles venue.
Adding to the fan fervor is the confirmation that "Voltron" will be helmed by "Legend of Korra" folks, which is also an animated series with a wide fan base. One of them is Joaquim Dos Santos, who is now the executive producer of 'Voltron.' Working with Dos Santos are writer Tim Hendricks and co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery.
In terms of the show's storyline, a report from Polygon states that aside from Voltron's assembly, it will also focus on the backstories of the Lion Force pilots. The show's creators admit looking to "Game of Thrones" and "Star Wars" as inspiration for creating a solid narrative.
The 13-episode series "Voltron: Legendary Defender" will air June 10, 2016, on Netflix. Watch the teaser trailer here.
