Netflix original science fiction television series "Stranger Things" is one of the network's biggest shows. The show only debuted this July but it has managed to charm the network's loyal viewers as well as TV critics.

According to Symphony AM, as reported by Business Insider, "Stranger Things" had 8.2 million viewers in the show's first 16 days. This effectively made it more popular than Marvel superhero shows "Daredevil," and "Jessica Jones."

What makes the show so special? Co-creator Matt Duffer admitted to Rolling Stone that the show was even rejected about 15 to 20 times by different networks.

For the uninitiated, "Stranger Things" is an '80s-themed science fiction TV series set in a small town of Hawkins, Indiana. The show features famous '80s actors Winona Ryder and Matthew Modine. It dwells on the disappearance of a young boy Will Byers (Noah Schnapp).

Will's mother Joyce Byers (Ryder) attempts to find her child, with the help of Police Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Will's friends Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), and Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin). Soon after, a telekinetic girl named Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) who claims that she knows of Will's whereabouts, joins the search party. But as the group digs deeper, they find out that the government has a big secret it is trying to cover up.

According to Matt, he and his brother/co-creator Ross were rejected because most networks hesitated to air a show that featured four children as lead characters in a story not meant for children. Matt recalled they were given a choice to do either a full-blown kid's program or a show about Chief Hopper investigating paranormal activity.

Fans are most likely happy that the show was rejected by those networks. More importantly, fans are probably rejoicing that the brothers didn't settle with those networks' proposed ideas. "Stranger Things" definitely found its place with Netflix.

Though the show hasn't been officially renewed for another season, many believe that the show will have a long run, considering its massive success.
