Millions of "Need For Speed" fans are disappointed that the racing video game franchise is going to skip 2016 as it was recently announced that the upcoming installment will be released in 2017. The announcement was made on the NFS Blog on May 10, which also serves as a yearly report from the game publisher, Electronic Arts or EA.

The blog also shows figures on how the game was played by people all over the world. The report states 550 million events played, more than 10 million drag races, Eddie's challenge events were played 53 million times, there were more than 10.8 million Urbex, vistas points reaches 29.2 million, car customization reaches to 16 million hours, hot rods customization also reaches 4.2 million and a whopping $2.490 trillion total cash were earned. The blog also revealed that there were 36 million snapshots taken by players all over the world.

The game publisher has also revealed that the SpeedList update will be the last one for "Need For Speed." Apparently, fans will have to wait for 2017 to come before they can experience something new about the game.

"The SpeedList update will be our last free content update for this game. Make sure you're still earning bonus REP, taking advantage of discounts or earning some extra in-game money from all the upcoming Community Events. The next one starts this weekend, so hit the streets of Ventura Bay and earn yourself an extra $1,000 in-game credits from all Drag Events," as stated in the announcement.

There are reports suggesting that the reason why EA decided to push back the release of the new "Need For Speed" is because the last game title failed to meet the expectations of both the fans and the game publisher.

Fans are hoping that the long wait will be worth it as EA and the game developer, Ghost Games, have plenty of time to make sure the upcoming game gets the polishing it needs.
