CBS' police procedural drama "NCIS: New Orleans" only has two episodes left for season 2, and this week's episode featured the NCIS team investigating a case involving a Navy culinary specialist who became a target of an explosion in the French Quarter.

As noted in the official synopsis, next week's penultimate episode will see the team as they find a connection between the murder of a Navy master driver and an imminent foreign attack on the city. They will seek the help of Homeland Security to figure out a way to stop the impending threat on New Orleans. Based on the previous episodes, it seems like the team is working more frequently with Homeland Security. This gives the idea that the case they are investigating is far more serious this time as it involves terrorism.

Showrunner and co-creator Gary Glasberg recently caught up with Parade where he discussed how location plays a big part in the terrorist threat in the storyline. "It is a port city and that definitely comes into play," he explained. "It has been really important to us to demonstrate the constant communication that is going on between agencies and organizations. It is honestly the way that crimes and threats are thwarted daily. To be able to portray that as realistically as possible is important to us. Is it accurate that NCIS and the FBI are working in conjunction with Homeland and local authorities as well? Absolutely."

As for Brody's character, rumor has it that she will be doing a crossover episode with the original "NCIS" series because she is heading to D.C. However, Glasberg confirmed that it will not happen this season, but they are not closing their doors. "There is nothing planned at the end of this season at all, but I certainly wouldn't rule it out for next year," he said.

"NCIS: New Orleans" airs Tuesdays, 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
