'NBA 2K17' release date news 2016: 'Creed' star Michael B. Jordan featured in MyCareer mode; gamers allowed to play MyCareer opening for free starting Sept. 9

NBA 2K17 only has over two weeks to go until its much-anticipated launch, and new changes on the MyCareer mode has recently surfaced. 2K sports continues to bring Hollywood star power for the game and this time, actor Michael B. Jordan will be featured in the game mode which centers on friendship.
Jordan, 29, plays the role of Justice Young. Similar to the player's character, he is an up-and-coming NBA athlete. Like the popular tandem of Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry, Justice and the player will rise through the ranks together. The duo will be called "Orange Juice," which represents the chemistry between the two characters and their effect on the court as a team.
Aside from Jordan, the MyCareer mode also features other celebrities including "Veep" star Matt Walsh as the player's college coach named Hemsley Adson and "Broad City" actor Hannibal Buress as a barber named Ice. Aaron Covington, who co-wrote "Creed," directed the storyline for MyCareer.
"I'm humbled at the opportunity to help influence a franchise that I've been a passionate fan of since its first release," Jordan said in a press statement. Apart from lending his voice, the actor also did motion-capture work for his character in the video game.
According to senior producer Ben Bishop, their goal for this year is to further highlight the game of basketball while adding more to the "dynamic and interactive story element." He further added that the player has complete control on Justice's actions, instead of just telling him what to do. This is the only time that MyCareer included a dual player control.
For the first time in the game's history, interested gamers will be able to play the opening of MyCareer mode for free starting Sept. 9.
NBA 2K17 officially debuts on Sept. 20 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. A legend edition will also be available featuring Kobe Bryant as the cover athlete.
