NBA 2016 trade rumors: Los Angeles Lakers still looking to land marquee player

With some money in the pocket and the promise of being a franchise player, the Los Angeles Lakers are seemingly finding it difficult to land a big star.
Kobe Bryant is out of the league and the Lakers are banking on their big name and history to sign a superstar.
Undoubtedly, the Lakers are going after the top stars this year and Kevin Durant is one on the top of their list.
Unfortunately, early rumors have shot down the chances of the Lakers landing their top choice. Yet, ESPN stated that the Lakers are still trying.
In case that doesn't fall through, the rumor mill is still linking the Lakers with some players they could sign.
According to Mobile N Apps, Sacramento Kings star DeMarcus Cousins is also a player the Lakers can possibly lure to sign on.
Cousins is one of the best big men in the league and is looking to be with a winning team, one that can possibly help him reach the playoffs.
The report suggested that the Lakers are ready to part ways with sophomore guard D'Angelo Russell, if it means they get Cousins in return.
Averaging only under 27 points and 12 rebounds per game, Cousins is a solid pick-up if the Lakers get to sign him.
On the other hand, Bleacher Report noted that the Lakers are trying to get the Dallas Mavericks' Chandler Parsons to sign with them.
Parsons had a relatively good season with the Mavericks. Already heading into his sixth year in the league, Parsons averaged 13.7 points per game, while shooting around 49 percent.
In his final year of the contract, Parsons has a player option and may very well exercise it to see the market's interest in him.
Finally, the biggest news outside of Durant is in the Lakers' link with Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside.
With his breakout season, Whiteside averaged 14.2 points and 11.8 rebounds per game, while being a standout on the defensive end.
If the Lakers get to sign Whiteside, he will be a very integral part of the young core of the Lakers and they may very well be a team for the future.
