'Nashville' season 5 air date, casting news: 'Undateable' grad Bridgit Mendler lands recurring role; Cameron Scoggins joins cast as Rayna's obsessive superfan

The stellar cast lineup for "Nashville" continuously grows, and the upcoming fifth season will introduce actress Bridgit Mendler for a recurring role.

According to reports, the "Undateable" grad was recently confirmed to recur as Ashley Wilkenson. After becoming an internet sensation with 30 million viewers, Ashley will begin pursuing her dreams by recording her first album. Described as sexy, confident and stubborn, Ashley is an extremely talented woman who will do everything to reach her dreams. Beneath her self-assured facade, however, is a vulnerable personality.

Mendler started getting attention in the entertainment industry when she joined Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place" as a recurring character. She then starred in other TV shows such as "Good Luck Charlie," NBC's "Undateable," "Muppets Most Wanted" and "House." Aside from being an actress, Mendler is also known for her musical talent. Back in 2012, she released her debut album "Hello My Name Is..." and now she is preparing to release a new EP titled "Nemesis" on November 18.

Mendler joins the show's previously announced recurring stars for season 5 including Murray Bartlett from "Looking," Joseph David-Jones from "Legends of Tomorrow," Jen Richards from "I Am Cait" and Grammy-winning artist Rhiannon Giddens.

Just a few weeks ago, CMT has also revealed that Cameron Scoggins will also be joining the program as a recurring character. TV Guide reports that he will play the role of Zach Welles, a young billionaire working in Silicon Valley who also happens to an obsessive superfan of Rayna (Connie Britton). After crossing paths with Rayna, Zach offers to use his skills and connections to introduce her music to the younger generation, but it will later be revealed that fame won't be the only thing he will offer her.

The fifth season of "Nashville" premieres on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 9 p.m. EST on CMT.
