'Narcos' season 3 cast news, release date: 3 new cast members added amid series shake-up

Just over a month after its double season renewal by Netflix, "Narcos" has beefed up its cast list with three new members for its upcoming third season.
The second season of the drug cartel drama debuted in September and ended the story of the famous Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura), setting the next seasons of the crime thriller on a whole new path.
Joining "Narcos" in its third season is "Halt and Catch Fire" alum Kerry Bishe, who will play the role of Christina. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), Christina, an American, is married to a Colombian involved in a cartel. In season 3, Christina will try to escape from her husband and the cartel by seeking help from the U.S. Embassy.
Other new series regulars joining the Golden Globe-nominated drama in its upcoming third season are "Show Me a Hero" actor Michael David-Stahl and Matt Whelan, a New Zealand actor known for his starring role in the dramedy "Go Girls."
Stahl-David will play the role of Chris Feistl, a young American Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent who will seek assignment to Colombia as the Cali Cartel takes over the drug trade in the wake of Escobar's death. Feistl is said to be more serious and straight-edged than his partner Daniel Van Ness, who will be played by Whelan.
"Narcos" star Pedro Pascal, who played DEA agent Javier Peña in seasons 1 and 2, has been confirmed to reprise his role in the upcoming season. It is still unclear whether or not Boyd Holbrook, who played DEA agent Steve Murphy, will be back as well.
Last month, "Narcos" showrunner Eric Newman told THR that he sees the next season of the Netflix original series as a "schematic sequel" and said that the death of Escobar in season 2 paved the way for the show's reinvention.
"A guy like Escobar was going to be replaced by, in some ways, a more pervasive and more insidious organization like Cali, that had a corruptive influence that went way beyond the outlaw," he said.
"Narcos" season 3 will arrive on Netflix sometime in 2017.
