'Narcos' season 3 air date, spoilers update: New characters will be introduced in season 3
Netflix has renewed "Narcos" for a third and fourth season but with drug kingpin Pablo Escobar's (Wagner Moura) death, fans are quite unsure about next season's plot. Sources reported that the Cali Cartel will be the highlight of season 3.

As previously reported, although Escobar was a significant character in the previous seasons, the show must go on even after his death. Executive producer Eric Newman even told Entertainment Weekly in an interview that the show "will stop when drug trade stops."
Needless to say, the drug trade did not cease when the kingpin died. Successors and other cartels took advantage of his demise to take over the scene. In particular, sources said that Cali Cartel members Helmer "Pacho" Herrera and Escobar's former partner, Gilberto Rodriguez Orejuela, could be the focus of season three.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Newman revealed, "I view it as a schematic sequel in that, what Escobar did and what the authorities did to capture Escobar changed the game. A guy like Escobar was going to be replaced by, in some ways, a more pervasive and more insidious organization like Cali, that had a corruptive influence that went way beyond the outlaw."
The executive producer shared that they are still working on casting stars for the upcoming season. The showrunners are still trying to get the previous cast members to reprise their roles. Moreover, new characters are expected to be introduced in the third season.
"I think there will be a pretty good mix of new and old. I'd liken it to season two in that there were a lot of new characters that were added," Newman told the news outlet.
Fans of the show can stream the second season on Netflix. The third season of "Narcos" is expected to premiere on the streaming site sometime next year.
