Netflix recently announced that it has renewed its drug trafficking series "Narcos" for two more seasons. The show will continue despite the death of the infamous drug cartel leader, Pablo Escobar, on whom the first two seasons focused on.

"This show is about the choice [the U.S. made] about the war on drugs – to deal with it as if it were a problem of supply," executive producer Jose Padilha told Variety. "So we go to Colombia and we will kill the drug dealers. But they cannot stop it as long as there is the demand. That's why this show will never end," he added.

The second season of the show was released last Friday, Sept. 2. Although it featured the death of drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, the finale hinted that the upcoming season could still be set in Columbia. Rumor has it that the show will be shifting its attention towards the Cali Cartel next season. Helmer "Pacho" Herrera might be Javier Peña's (Pedro Pascal) target next season.

Entertainment Weekly (EW) reported the possibility of a shift in focus. Executive producer Eric Newman told the news outlet that "there's a lot of story left to be told in Colombia." The showrunner also stressed that they intentionally didn't name the show "Pablo Escobar" or "Medellin" so they can opt to move the story to wherever the war on drugs will take them. Newman told EW that they still have to look into Peña's role in the Drug Enforcement Administration operation involving the Cali Cartel, and what he did to take it down.

The show has so much potential, since the war on drugs is still a pretty intense problem today. In the interview with Variety, Padilha claimed, "We'll stop when the drug trade stops." Newman added, "We'll stop when you stop. That's our pact with America."

The third season of "Narcos" is expected to be released by Netflix sometime next year.
