Netflix's crime thriller "Narcos" season 2 premiere will mark the beginning of the end for the show's version of Pablo Escobar, the late real-life drug kingpin played by Brazilian actor Wagner Moura.

Escobar's impending end in "Narcos" was hinted at in the season 2 trailer released by Netflix and confirmed by Moura in an interview with Chelsea Handler.

The new trailer for "Narcos" season 2 shows Moura as Escobar and three dates flashing on the screen. The first, Dec. 1, 1949, is Escobar's date of birth. The second, Dec. 2, 1993, is the day he died. The third date, Sept. 2, 2016, marks the day when season 2 becomes available on Netflix for online streaming.

"It's all about Pablo on the run," Moura said on Handler's new Netflix talk show "Chelsea" on Tuesday, June 14. "It's from the day Pablo escapes to his death."

"Narcos" became widely popular in its freshman season, which covered 10 years in the life of Escobar, from when he was a small-time smuggler up to when he had become the world's most powerful drug dealer. Meanwhile, the second season, which will see the conclusion of the infamous Colombian drug lord's story, will only cover a month in the character's life.

Moura's portrayal of the drug kingpin earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor this year. While the actor may have embodied Escobar with uncanny accuracy in the show's first season, Moura recently revealed that he wasn't exactly the perfect guy for the role.

"It was the craziest thing I've ever done," he said during The Hollywood Reporter's annual Drama Actor Emmy Roundtable. "I didn't speak Spanish, I wasn't thin — I wasn't the obvious choice to play this character."

But the actor was committed to the role and even learned a new language to better portray the character.

While Netflix has not confirmed whether or not "Narcos" will have a future beyond its second season, Entertainment Weekly says that the show would presumably debut a new storyline, as in the style of "American Horror Story," about a different drug ring or drug lord in its potential third season.

The second season of "Narcos" debuts Sept. 2 on Netflix.
