'Narcos' Season 2 release date, news, update, rumors: New episodes to hit Netflix on Sept. 2; Season 3 possible with a new lead?

There are reports that the upcoming second season of "Narcos" will finally show the real-life Colombian drug lord Paul Escobar meeting his end, although the series might still go on with a new story and a new protagonist even with Escobar's absence.
GQ Magazine reported, "Narcos" Season 2 will arrive on Sept. 2 as shown in the recently released trailers. The rumors are rife that Season 2 of the Netflix original crime drama thriller will be the last for the series, due to the fact that the show itself is based on a true story. "Narcos" retells the life of Colombian drug syndicate head Pablo Escobar (played by Wagner Moura). Season 1 covered 15 years of Escobar's life leading to his involvement in the underground business and the remaining events in his life include his escape in La Catedral in 1992 until his death in his hometown of Medellin in late 1993. This will give roughly 18 months to be shown in season 2, according to Breathe CAST.
A recent interview of "Narcos" producer, Eric Newman with Slash Film via Crossmap revealed that Moura's Escobar has to die in the upcoming season.
"Trust me, if we could find a way to keep him alive and keep Wagner on the show... He will die," Newman said. "There are any number of things that can happen after. We have not committed to one or the other. Obviously, there are a lot of other stories in this world that continue on beyond him."
However, even with the death of Escobar being shown in "Narcos" Season 2, there is a possibility that the series itself will continue even without the de facto protagonist of the first two seasons. It was also stated by Newman that the show can continue without the popular Colombian drug syndicate leader as there are a plenty of drug world storylines that they can follow. As reported by Crossmap, "Narcos" can still cover the rise of Cali Cartel after Escobar's death for the third season.
