'Narcos' Season 2 release date date delay news: New season might be delayed due to issues with real Pablo Escobar's brother

The promotional posters and teasers for the second season of "Narcos" are already out, and it appears that there is nothing to stop the premiere of the series' next chapter on Netflix this September. However, there might be a reason for the show to be delayed, as the real Pablo Escobar's brother recently requested Netflix to let him review the contents of Season 2's script.

Variety reported that the brother of Pablo Escobar, Roberto, is demanding the production team of "Narcos" to let him go over the script of the new season. He wants to review the contents of the upcoming season before it airs on September 2. Roberto Escobar reportedly sent a letter to Netflix to allow him to review the second season, as he is the only one knowledgeable about the real-life events in his brother's life, which are what the show is based on.

The CEO of the Escobar Incorporated, Olof K. Gustafsson also supported Roberto Escobar's claim, saying that Netflix should hear the request because the series has been showing the events in Pablo and Roberto Escobar's life, and these events must be precisely portrayed on screen.

If ever Netflix granted Roberto's request, the material might be subjected to further revisions, thus the September 2 air date indicated on the latest teaser trailer for "Narcos" may no longer push through. Furthermore, the upcoming events in "Narcos" Season 2 are quite sensitive for Roberto and the remaining friends and kin of Pablo, as they are expected to show the latter's death.

The end of Escobar in the series might already be inevitable as "Narcos" executive producer and showrunner, Eric Newman, told Slash Film via Crossmap that they have no choice but to show Escobar's death in season 2.

"Trust me, if we could find a way to keep him alive and keep Wagner on the show... He will die," Newman said. "There are any number of things that can happen after. We have not committed to one or the other. Obviously, there are a lot of other stories in this world that continue on beyond him."
