Fans of the Netflix television series about Pablo Escobar's (Wagner Moura) infamous drug cartel already know the fate of the Colombian drug lord. Without a doubt, Escobar's death is carved in stone. At this point, the right question to ask about the forthcoming season of "Narcos" is "Who killed Pablo?"

At the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Moura confirmed that season 2 will be about Escobar's downfall and death. Moura also revealed that the second season will be more dramatic as it focuses solely on Escobar's last few months.

Government organizations and rival drug cartels were after the real-life Escobar who died in 1993. Although the public was not able to find out who was responsible for Escobar's death, his killer belong to one of these four groups — DEA, Search Bloc, the Cali Cartel and Los Pepes.

Escobar's family members reportedly claimed that the drug lord killed himself before any of these groups could reach him.

However, another account that circulated was that Escobar actually died when the Search Bloc chased him and his bodyguard Alvaro de Jesus Agudelo aka "El Limon" across the rooftops of houses in a middle-class barrio in Medellin. Police later entered the scene and during the scuffle, Escobar was shot on his leg and torso but it was the bullet that went through his ear which ended his life instantly.

How will Netflix portray Escobar's death? Which story will the series depict?

While some fans are yearning to know the answer, some are just worried that the show will end with Escobar's death. Variety reported that real-life Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent Steve Murphy admitted that executive producer Eric Newman and the network "did an outstanding job." He added, "I hope there's life for the show after Escobar."

The DEA agent suggested other plausible material for the show, such as cocaine, which he said is an ongoing story. He also suggested a Mexican chapter beginning with Felix Gallardo.

Fans can find out who killed Escobar in the 10-episode second season of "Narcos" which premieres on Netflix on Friday, Sept. 2. Netflix has yet to confirm a third season for "Narcos."
