'Modern Family' season 8 spoilers, plot news: Cam and Mitch to have new housemate; Phil's father returns

Phil's (Ty Burell) father Frank (Fred Willard) will be in town to visit his family, while Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitch (Jesse Tyler-Ferguson) will have a new housemate in the upcoming eighth season of hit ABC comedy "Modern Family."
Season 8 will feature Phil's fun-loving dad in a different light when the show returns later this month. Executive producer Steve Levitan recently caught up with Entertainment Weekly's Spoiler Room and he teased a huge change for Frank, which draws a surprised reaction from his only child, Phil. "He comes back with a very different life situation that throws Phil into a tizzy," he said.
Ever since Phil's mother died, things became quite different for Frank as he seemed to have lost his cheerfulness. Phil and his wife Claire (Julie Bowen) made several attempts to help him get back to the dating scene, but Frank still chose to be single because he always loved Phil's mother and thought no one could ever replace her. Frank likes to travel to different places while driving his RV and there are speculations that Frank will be embarking on a cross-country trip, leading Phil to worry about his father. Another fan theory is that Frank will finally meet a new woman in his life and decides to get married again.
Meanwhile, Cam and Mitch will also have their share of new family dynamics, as one character will become their housemate next season. "Mitch and Cam are taking in one of the football players from Cam's team, who's going to live with them for a little while," the EP added. Cam is known for helping other people too much, which previously led to many conflicts between him and Mitch. It remains to be seen how Mitch adjusts to their family's new addition.
