"Castle" star Nathan Fillion and "Maya and Marty" actor Martin Short are both set to guest star for the upcoming eighth season of "Modern Family" this Fall.

During the TCA summer press tour, executive producer/co-creator Steve Levitan shared details on the new guest stars entering the picture next season. Fillion will portray a character named Rainer Shine, a local weather news reporter who crosses paths with the Dunphy family. Short, who will also be a part of NBC's upcoming musical "Hairspray Live," will guest star in episode two as a promotional expert named Merv Schechter.

Major plot details remain under wraps but according to executive producer Steve Levitan, another huge Halloween-themed episode is underway. The series always makes a Halloween special every season and the Pritchett patriarch may be the focus of the said episode. The costume Jay decides to wear will reportedly cause a stir in the family  "Jay's big costume idea is him, Gloria and Joe are going to be Jesus, Mary and Joseph, and that leads to some problems," Levitan told Entertainment Weekly. "Jay is going to be Jesus on Halloween."

Aside from filming for the eighth season, actor Ty Burell is keeping himself busy by supporting a non-profit organization focused on kids. He recently hosted a cocktail party/silent auction for Kids in the Spotlight, an organization helping underprivileged and foster-care youth express themselves by producing, directing and writing their own creative short films.

"The biggest [win] of the organization is giving voice to kids that are marginalized by society and don't feel like they have a voice," Burrell told The Hollywood Reporter. As a part of his advocacy, he also teaches acting classes for foster children and invites them to tour the "Modern Family" set.

Tune in to "Modern Family" season 8 which premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
