Executive producer of ABC's hit mockumentary "Modern Family" recently teased another great season for the show. The sitcom is already in its eighth season and showrunner Steven Levitan hinted that the series just gets bigger and better each season.

The next season might pick up where season 7 ended. To recap the last season, the Dunphy clan went to New York instead of going on their supposed trip to Paris. It seems like viewers will be seeing more of the Dunphys' escapade in New York in season 8. Levitan told Movie Fone that some parts of the season premiere will be set in New York.

More importantly, Levitan revealed that season 8 will feature two popular television icons: Martin Short and Nathan Fillion. The executive producer said these guest stars will be linked to the Dunphys.

The Canadian-American actor Short will be appearing next season as Phil's (Ty Burrell) associate. Levitan said the comedian will be helping Phil with his promotional items.

Aside from him, "Castle" alum Fillion is expected to do a story arc for season 8, according to Levitan. Fillion will play the part of a local weatherman who will eventually get involved with the Dunphys. As to how, the executive producer did not say.

Another character will join the limelight as well. Levitan revealed that Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) will be taking in one of Cam's football players for awhile.

For the upcoming season, fans can also look forward to another memorable Halloween episode, Entertainment Weekly reported. Next season, Gloria (Sofia Vergara) intends to dress herself, Jay (Ed O'Neill) and Joe (Jeremy Maguire) as the holy family – Jesus, Mary and Joseph. But Jay, like always, will become uncooperative. According to the report, however, Levitan confirmed that Jay will dress up as Jesus on Halloween.

The eighth season of "Modern Family" will return on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
