'Modern Family' season 8 episode 4 spoilers: Phil appears on TV for real-estate segment; 'Castle' alum Nathan Fillion guest stars as popular weatherman and Phil's new friend

The weather forecast calls for a little "Rainer Shine" in the upcoming episode of ABC's top-rating comedy series "Modern Family" season 8.

Titled "Weathering Heights," next week's episode will see some chaos in the blended family. The fourth episode will also see "Castle" alum Nathan Fillion make an appearance as a guest star. According to the official synopsis, Phil (Ty Burell) can't hide his excitement after being invited by a local news station to appear in a real-estate segment. The day will go well and according to plan after Phil meets his "weatherman" hero, Rainer Shine (played by guest star Fillion).

Phil, however, will realize that he made one little mistake; he introduced Rainer to his eldest daughter Hayley (Sarah Hyland). Meanwhile, at the Pritchett residence, Jay (Ed O'Neil) decides to add a bit of grit into Manny's (Rico Rodriguez) video interview for his college application. In the Tucker-Pritchett home, Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) no longer wants their new houseguest to overstay his welcome, leading her to take matters into her own hands.

As previously reported, Fillion will join "Modern Family" to appear in multiple episodes as the famed, self-important weatherman with whom Phil develops a new friendship. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show's executive producer Christopher Lloyd explained the interesting dynamic between the two characters.

"He [Rainer] has always been Phil's favorite weatherman," Lloyd said. "Phil imagines that might have been a career path for him had things worked ever so slightly differently for him, but the guy is small-time celebrity and imagines he's a little bit larger celebrity than he is. Phil idolizes him and then gets a little jealous when that guy starts lavishing attention on other family members."

The eighth season of "Modern Family" airs every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
