Tom Cruise will once again take on the role of U.S. government operative Ethan Hunt in the "Mission: Impossible" film series. The upcoming film will be the sixth installment of the franchise.

Pre-production for the film was shortly put on hold when the actor didn't want to settle with his fee. After heated salary disputes last summer, the actor is reportedly close to sealing the deal with Paramount. The negotiations have officially ended and the pre-production for the sixth installment will begin next spring.

Sources say that Paramount intended to give Cruise and the producers at Bad Robot and Skydance a lower rate for the upcoming installment. Moreover, other rumors suggest that the studio intended to give him the same amount he received in "Rogue Nation." Sources believe that Cruise wanted a raise. He wanted to receive the same amount he received for his role in Universal Studio's "The Mummy."

Christopher McQuarrie will be writing and directing the sixth installment. Since he directed the previous film "Rogue Nation," the director will be the first one to handle more than one "Mission: Impossible" film.

Brian De Palma directed the first film of the franchise which premiered in 1996. The second film was released in 2000 and it was directed by John Woo. A third film was directed by "The Force Awakens" director J.J, Abrams and was launched in 2003, followed by "Ghost Protocol" which was directed by Brad Bird.

"Rogue Nation" which was released in 2015 featured Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Simon McBurney and Rebecca Ferguson. The studio has yet to announce the rest of the cast for the upcoming film. Moreover, Paramount still hasn't announced a specific release date. However, the sixth installment of the show is expected to launch towards the end of 2017.
