In less than a month, Microsoft and Mojang will launch Minecraft's Boss update for "Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta," "Minecraft: Pocket Edition," and "Minecraft: Gear VR Edition."

The upcoming Boss update will feature two additional bosses — the Wither and the Elder Guardian — in the game.

The update will also allow gamers to explore the ocean monument. The structure will have a number of surprises that will permit players to build and go on adventures. Players will now be able to use slash commands to alter the game, so they can now summon and even teleport.

More importantly, Microsoft announced that the update will consist of the first iteration of add-ons. The biggest addition to the game will give players the opportunity to edit text files.

By allowing players to edit these text files, gamers will be able to adjust the elements of the default game and create their own. Gamers can use the add-ons to adjust Al, to customize mobs and to tweak the characters in the game. The customized "Minecraft" worlds can then be uploaded to the Realms so that other players may download and play the games as well.

Once the update is live, players will be able to browse through sample add-on worlds from the official "Minecraft" website by downloading them. A few of the samples include the Alien Invasion add-on and the Castle Siege add-on created by SethBling, BlockWorks and Mindcrack. Both add-ons were presented at the annual E3 video game conference.

Furthermore, the update will give players more controller options. Hence, players will be able to play with a wireless Xbox controller with bluetooth while playing on the Windows 10 and the "Minecraft: Gear VR Edition." The Windows 10 Edition, on the other hand, will feature an oculus touch support for VR.

"Minecraft" Boss Update is expected to launch on Oct. 18.
